Abstract

The purpose of this retrospective study is to analyze statistically the success rate and type of rehabilitation on implants performed with delayed and immediate loading, in a sample of 202 patients treated in the Master of Oral Rehabilitation issued by the Faculty of Dentistry, University Andres Bello, in the period 2005-2007. The need to reduce waiting times between the surgical and prosthetic phase in the treatment of dental implants has led clinicians to prefer immediate loading techniques. Although these techniques have been developed extensively in recent times, the scientific evidence that predicts their success rate is still very short term. Data collected were entered into a Microsoft Office Excel ®, and then analyzed statistically in “Fisher ‘exact test. The results show a 2% deferred load failure and 4% in immediate loading. This analysis demonstrated no statistically significant difference exists for the values found in delayed and immediate loading with regard to success rate. Furthermore, sex and age variables are not determinant of success and failure in treatment based on the implants. Therefore, a physical examination completed, an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment planning, coupled with rigorous surgical and prosthetic protocols, allow us to ensure high success rates without distinction between treatments with delayed and immediate loading
