Introduction
The supracrestal gingival tissue (SGT) is the tissue from above the alveolar crest to the gingival margin and averages 3 mm according to histological measurements.
Aim
Measure and compare contralaterally the dimensions of SGT in anterior upper teeth in young adults with healthy human periodontium.
Material and Method
80 individuals with clinically healthy periodontium (35 men and 45 women) aged between 20 and 35 years that fulfilled the inclusion criteria, were examined by a calibrated examiner. The SGT were measured by transgingival probing using a North Carolina periodontal probe to the level of the zenit in the buccal surface of the teeth 13, 12, 11, 21, 22, 23, the measures were registered and statistics analysis was realized. (Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U Test ).
Results
Results showed that SGT measurements ranged from 1,0 to 5,0 mm. The general mean in was 2,8 ± 0,8 mm. Contralateral measurements showed no statistical difference (p>0,05).
Conclusion
The mean of SGT in anterior upper teeth is close to the measures founded in the scientific publications associated with the present study. When comparing the STG of contralateral teeth, no statistically significant differences were found.
